Tupac was buried in a casket made of a hemp-like fiber known as “bamboo”. The casket was lined with a black velvet cloth. The coffin was closed by two cherry wood handles. It is rumored that Tupac’s hair was cut off and put in his coffin, but this is unconfirmed. The casket was placed on top of a black velvet cushion and covered in an ornate gold leaf-patterned cloth.

A few days before his funeral, Tupac’s body was taken out of the casket and laid down on the ground so that people could pay their respects before they closed him back into his tomb.

Tupac Shakur was originally buried at the Lake View Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. He was later moved to a mausoleum at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California, and then to the New York Hall of Fame for Great Black Innovators in Manhattan, New York.
